My sister Kate was very complimentary about the Foxholes farm shop and butcher so we got there last month to check out what was the fuss about.

The shop situated just in a stone throw from the picturesque town of Hertford, is bursting with county-produced, seasonal foodstuffs: fruit and veg from the surrounding fields, cakes from local bakers, game from the Hertfordshire gamekeepers and literally zero food mile meat. This is the place you can really appreciate food provenance, as the hills around are dotted with sheep, cattle, pigs and poultry.

The owner, Catherine Smith, has masses of energy and head full of ideas. After the success of the pop up Christmas Hut she has just opened a tearoom. We will certainly be back for a cup of coffee and home made cake now when this new local cafe is up and running.
